Challenge: An instrument manufacturer needed Hazardous Location (HL) seal fittings (sealing glands) to install on an I/P unit that converts an electrical signal to a pneumatic signal. An approved pressure seal was required because the application was on a remote natural gas transmission site, where gas was used instead of air on the pneumatic side of the I/P. In the event of a component failure, there was a risk of gas leaking into the control room.
Solution: Conax provided an HL seal that would prevent the gas from traveling through the conduit into the control room in the event of a component failure.
